INTERNATIONAL. Welcome to the latest issue of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine, in which we feature The Shilla Duty Free – the first retailer to have simultaneously secured duty free perfumes & cosmetics concessions across Incheon International, Hong Kong International and Singapore Changi airports.

In a special report we examine the company’s accelerating momentum on the international stage, following a brace of crucial tender successes and landmark downtown openings in Thailand and Japan. We also examine its first-quarter results, in the wake of the THAAD controversy and the growing proliferation of duty free licences in Seoul.

Gebr Heinemann’s family owners and senior management have never been afraid to challenge the company’s direction, or that of the industry. At its annual press conference in April, the company asked itself the question: how can a family firm stand out in a consolidating, often difficult market?

Being independent and agile has allowed the company to prosper: it reported €3.8 billion in annual sales in 2016 and a plan to invest €100 million in stores, infrastructure and digital support in 2017. The company’s vision of the future includes a turnover target of €4 billion.

This issue also includes our regular Sense of Place column, in association with Aer Rianta International. An increasing number of passengers see Sense of Place as an important part of their overall airport experience. When given localised and differentiated experiences, travellers are developing stronger emotional connections to the airport – which puts them in a state of mind to shop.

Please enjoy this edition of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine with our compliments.
