INTERNATIONAL. Welcome to the latest issue of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine, in which we reflect on this week’s opening of Terminal 2 South Pier at Rio de Janeiro’s main international airport.

Ahead of the Olympic Games being held in the city in August, airport authority RIOgaleão and duty free retailer Dufry have partnered to create an ambitious shopping space featuring three expansive stores. The revamped terminal’s Carioca Street retail concept recreates the Rio de Janeiro streetscape and landmarks.

Dufry’s stores deliver a coherent and holistic Sense of Place thanks to the work of commercial master planner and retail design partner The Design Solution. In our regular Sense of Place column, Director Nick Taylor reveals the key elements of the project and how it has created a smooth and exciting customer experience.

Also in this issue we assess the stuttering state of the travel retail industry in Latin America and look back on some of London Gatwick Airport’s historic moments as it celebrates the 80th anniversary of its first commercial flight. Prominent global figures such as John F. Kennedy, Pope John Paul II and Queen Elizabeth II have graced Gatwick’s tarmac during that time.

A striking fragrance campaign, an exhibition devoted to surfing photography and a changing of the guard at Dubai Duty Free feature in our regular look at the industry’s big people news and best new launches, campaigns, activations and openings.

Please enjoy this edition of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine with our compliments.
