INTERNATIONAL. Welcome to the latest issue of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine, in which we take a tour of Shinsegae Duty Free’s first downtown store in Seoul.

With arguably the most dazzling installation you’ll find anywhere in the travel retail world and a strong offer buoyed by popular Korean brands, the company is making a strong play in the channel.

With ambitious plans to create a tourist hub in the Seoul downtown area, the future is looking bright, says the company. “By the end of next year I think we will be in a very solid position in terms of competing with the big players in Korea,” says Merchandising Team Director Seok-Ho Hong.

Over the past year The Design Solution Director Robbie Gill has examined the concept of Sense of Place in The Moodie Davitt e-Zine, sharing the strongest expressions from airports across the world in a regular column. Now he selects his choice of the best of the best in The Design Solution’s ‘Sense of Place’ Awards.

In this issue we also explore a stellar Star Wars activation at Gatwick Airport, meet a company that creates virtual in-store simulations, and enter Sunrise Duty Free’s O World virtual mall online shopping platform.

In The Foodie Report, we assess HMSHost International’s strategic move into the designer outlet shopping centre business. The partnership it announced this week with McArthurGlen signals a diversification of the restaurateur’s operations, but with the travelling consumer still at its heart.

Please enjoy this edition of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine with our compliments.
