INTERNATIONAL. Welcome to the latest issue of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine, in which we reflect on the consumer perception of value in airport shopping. This was the theme of a compelling presentation by Aer Rianta International CEO Jack MacGowan at last week’s MEADFA Conference.

“Our challenge as an industry is to redefine how we offer value,” MacGowan told delegates in Dubai. “Our proposition is not as compelling to most passengers as other ways that they could be spending their time at the airport.”

Travel retail needs to reconnect with travellers by redefining price messaging, product offer and the customer experience, he said. One way to enhance the industry’s reputation in the face of media criticism might be to create a duty free consumer campaign such as #LoveDutyFree – an intriguing prospect.

On this issue’s cover we feature a spectacular image from the gala launch of DFS’s annual Masters of Time exhibition. The showcase brings together a collection of over 400 fine watches and jewellery pieces from more than 25 prestigious brands.

We also bring you pictorial reports from the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup, one of the highlights of the industry social calendar, and Travel Retail Norway and Gebr. Heinemann’s opening of a new Departures duty free store at Oslo Airport.

You’ll also find the latest column in our Spirit of Independence series, in association with Tito’s Handmade Vodka. This time we speak to IGL Duty Free Vice President Justin Guay about family values in the Canadian land border business.

David Beckham’s tattoo tales, a vibrant red Shiseido activation and Edrington’s charity bicycle ride feature in our regular look at the industry’s best new launches, campaigns, activations and openings.

Please enjoy this edition of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine with our compliments.
