INTERNATIONAL. Welcome to the latest issue of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine. Family business Gebr Heinemann, which was founded by Carl and Heinrich Heinemann in 1879, is going stronger than ever.

The company this week hosted its annual press conference, offering a fascinating insight into the pressures, priorities, prospects and plans of one of the world’s great travel retailers.

“We may not be able to influence global politics,” said co-owner Claus Heinemann in closing, “but what we can do is set a counterpoint by making our own principles as maxims for how we do business, pursuing our objectives with humanity, cordiality, openness and a healthy dose of humour, and showing optimism.”

Elsewhere, the focus is on the burgeoning global cruise market in a special report. The world’s leading travel retailers are responding to the growth trend by placing an increasing emphasis on the sector. With space constraints and onerous concession fees beleaguering the traditional airport duty free environment, the cruise market presents an ocean of opportunity.

In The Foodie Report, we interview Alejandro Serra, Development Director at travel food specialist Retail Services. The company has made a name for itself with its varied dining range at leading airports in Peru and Brazil, and has now set its sights on new territories.

We also present this year’s Airport Food & Beverage Conference programme, reflect on HMSHost’s fourth annual Channel Your Inner Chef competition, and explore new F&B openings in Los Angeles, Bogotá and Copenhagen.

Please enjoy this edition of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine with our compliments.
