INTERNATIONAL. Welcome to the latest issue of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine, which this week carries a tale of two tenders.

Airport Authority Hong Kong’s first two of a planned trio of core category retail tenders has attracted a powerful combination of Mainland Chinese, Hong Kong, Korean and international travel retailers. This includes the industry’s leading six players in The Moodie Davitt Report’s acclaimed annual Top 25 Travel Retailers League, and ten of the top 21. We assess a stellar line-up of bidders.

In South Korea, an uneasy truce has been reached between Incheon International Airport Corporation and government agency Korea Customs Service following an unprecedented row over who should assess the bids for the airport’s new Terminal 2 duty free contracts.

The tender comes against the background of political turmoil in the country, with China furious over South Korea’s decision to deploy the US anti-missile system THAAD later this year. With Chinese tourists by far the dominant spending force in South Korea’s duty free market, Korean travel retailers are deeply concerned about developments. We offer analysis of the situation.

In The Foodie Report, the spotlight is on Irish food market concept Marqette. It has brought a fast, fresh, varied food menu to Dublin Airport Terminal 1 and has set its sights on expansion into new territories.

We also explore a fine dining collaboration between Autogrill and Michelin star chef Cristina Bowerman at Rome Fiumicino Airport, and celebrate the launch of the 2017 edition of HMSHost’s popular Channel Your Inner Chef contest.

Please enjoy this edition of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine with our compliments.
