SINGAPORE. Edrington Global Travel Retail’s Scotch whisky brand The Macallan is donating S$30,000 (US$21,800) to plant 100 trees with the Singapore Garden City Fund. The donation is being made in partnership with Changi Airport Group (the host of The Trinity Forum 2022 on 1-2 November) and Lotte Travel Retail Singapore.
The donation follows the launch of the travel retail-exclusive The Macallan Harmony Collection Fine Cacao and the accompanying sustainable pop-up at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3. The pop-up ran from 1 May to 30 June.
The Garden City Fund is a National Parks Board (NParks) and Institution of Public Character (IPC) registered charity. The Macallan’s donation will support its Plant-A-Tree programme, which enables organisations and individuals to participate in the greening of Singapore.
It aims to double green urban infrastructure projects and support educational outreach and research projects that help reconnect people to nature.
The partners’ donation has gone towards planting 100 trees in Singapore’s Chestnut National Park. The donation contributes to the OneMillionTrees movement, which was launched by NParks in 2020. The project aims to plant one million trees in Singapore over the next ten years.
Edrington Global Travel Rerail Managing Director Jeremy Speirs commented, “We are pleased to support this meaningful cause in enhancing the greenery of our City in Nature, beautifying our surroundings, and restoring nature in Singapore. We are committed to progressing towards a legacy of positive action as we continue to drive our sustainability agenda.”
“We are pleased to be part of this meaningful initiative that not only celebrates the success of our partnership with Lotte Duty Free and the Macallan, but more importantly, contributes to the larger effort of environmental conservation in Singapore,” added Changi Airport Group Managing Director Airside Concessions Teo Chew Hoon.
“The Macallan pop-up in Changi Airport’s Terminal 3 shone a spotlight on its sustainability journey and underlined our belief that we can play a part in encouraging our passengers to become better stewards of our environment too.”
Lotte Travel Retail Singapore Managing Director Edward Im said: “We are pleased with the great success of the launch of The Macallan Harmony Collection Fine Cacao. In support of the donation to the Garden City Fund Singapore, we involved all our team members to ensure that all Macallan Harmony Collection Fine Cacao is sold out and has maximum awareness of The Macallan’s sustainability mission.”
The Macallan Harmony Collection Fine Cacao
As reported, The Macallan Harmony Collection Fine Cacao is the first in a limited-release series of single malts that will see the brand progress its journey towards sustainable packaging.
The line retails at US$160 and is available in The Macallan boutiques in selected international airports. It made its global travel retail debut in May with Lotte Duty Free at Singapore Changi Airport.
The limited-edition collection was inspired by nature and comes in sustainable packaging made from recycled cacao husks.
The launch was supported by a sustainable pop-up experience. The pop-up minimised waste, carbon emissions and the use of non-renewable sources.
The liquid is encased in a fully recyclable and biodegradable presentation box made with natural by-products of chocolate production. The box is made with discarded husks from cacao pods, minimising waste and extending the life-cycle of cacao.
The liquid is 40% ABV and has the colour of toasted cacao beans. On the nose it offers chocolate, butter toffee, oak and pear aromas. On the palate the liquid exudes chocolate covered raisins, ginger, fig and marzipan with a medium, chocolate finish.
Brandowner Edrington celebrated the launch with a suitably themed homepage makeover of The Moodie Davitt Report.com.
