The Glenturret launches first in limited-edition single malt series featuring Lalique decanter

The Glenturret, Scotland’s oldest working distillery, has launched a limited-edition super-premium single malt whisky series in collaboration with renowned French glassmaker Lalique.

Brand parent Glenturret Holding is a joint venture between luxury goods house Lalique and Swiss entrepreneur Hansjörg Wyss (Lalique’s second-largest shareholder).

The first offering from the series – known as The Glenturret by Lalique – is Glenturret Provenance. With an RRP of £9,800 (US$13,075), the release is restricted to 320 decanters, each presented in the finest French crystal designed by Marc Larminaux, Artistic & Creative Director at Lalique.

The 33 years old single malt whisky contained in the decanters comes with a cask strength of 43.7% ABV; it is natural in colour and non-chill filtered. The liquid – crafted by whisky maker Bob Dalgarno – is drawn from three casks filled in 1987 and bottled on 4 December 2020.

“The Glenturret Provenance is all about reflecting on time, memories of places and people gone before” – The Glenturret Managing Director John Laurie

The project for the new limited-edition series was instigated by Silvio Denz, Chairman and CEO of Lalique Group.

The producer said that the series celebrates ‘The Glenturret Trinity’: the three touchstones of Provenance, Prowess and Passion that underpin the distillery’s philosophy to preserve and enrich the world of whisky making for future generations.

Crystal decanter designer Larminaux said of his design inspiration: “Highest quality barley is the starting point for The Glenturret. Fields of barley slowly swaying in the soft breeze and the early morning light are truly a beautiful, mesmerising sight. The barley is represented through a glittering clear and frosted finish on the motif, hand-carved into the crystal by Lalique craftsmen.”

The Glenturret Managing Director John Laurie said: “2020 has been a challenging year for all but also a very exciting year for us. We recently introduced a fresh visual brand identity as well as six new expressions, hand-crafted by our incredible team at the distillery in Crieff. Adding The Glenturret Provenance is an important milestone for us – this is a whisky to be savoured slowly, which fits in perfectly with our distillation process as we still do everything here by hand.

“The Glenturret Provenance is all about reflecting on time, memories of places and people gone before. The Glenturret reaches back in history to 1763 and Lalique to 1888 – in our busy modern world we seldom take time to stop, to think, to drift, to remember and to discover. This is a whisky to be savoured slowly, time is meaningless and everything is in the same moment.”

Tasting notes

Rich notes of ginger, brandy-soaked cherries and plump, juicy sultanas, followed by hints of cinnamon sticks, dates and soft whispers of oak and green apple.
