Pernod Ricard Travel Retail is set to introduce new single malt The Glenlivet Captain’s Reserve to Asia travel retail and Dubai Duty Free following its debut at Singapore Changi Airport last month.
A 1-litre bottle of The Glenlivet Captain’s Reserve is priced at US$70.
The new expression pays homage to the importance of the finish and is a tribute to Captain William Smith Grant, great-grandson of George Smith, founder of The Glenlivet. The captain fought in the First World War in France and went on to fight for The Glenlivet. He guided the distillery through the difficult Prohibition years and led the single malt Scotch whisky revival in the UK and the US.
The Glenlivet Captain’s Reserve is finished in cognac casks which add a raisin-rich flavour that is blended with the creamy, fruity smoothness of The Glenlivet house style.
The Glenlivet Master Distiller Alan Winchester said: “We know whisky drinkers and in particular, single malt drinkers, are becoming increasingly adventurous when it comes to seeking out new and interesting flavours. So, we decided to set ourselves a challenge, to create something exciting and daring to provoke the evolving taste of The Glenlivet’s consumers, Captain’s Reserve.”
Winchester continued: “After maturing the whisky in a combination of American oak and ex-sherry oak casks for many years and selectively finishing it in ex-cognac casks, we’ve mastered the delicate but delicious balance between the influence of the finish and The Glenlivet signature style. Captain’s Reserve offers whisky drinkers the opportunity to broaden their single malt Scotch repertoire, and to try something new, creating a whole new taste experience.”
