“The biggest commercial airport tender in Brazil this year” is launched in Florianópolis

BRAZIL. A multi-package commercial tender has just been launched for the new passenger terminal at Florianópolis International Airport by operator Floripa Airport. It covers retail, food & beverage and other services.

Floripa, managed by Zürich Airport, has the operating concession at Florianópolis International Airport for a 30-year term, which started in January.

Following the takeover, the company immediately began construction of a new terminal, four times larger than the current one and able to serve eight million passengers annually. The airport company said that construction is well advanced and the terminal will be operational in the second half of 2019.

The commercial area in the new terminal, now under construction, covers 4,000sq m.

The commercial area covers 4,000sq m and the tender extends to more than 40 packages, aimed at creating an attractive mix that will transform the airport into “a space of unforgettable experiences for visitors, and not only a place of transit” said Floripa.

Floripa Airport CEO Tobias Markert said: “An airport is a place to be. Thus, in addition to commercial operations, the new terminal in Florianópolis will have living spaces, including areas for cultural exhibitions and multiple services.”

Commenting on the development, Floripa Airport Corporate Development Manager René Baumann (on assignment from Zürich Airport), said: “This is the biggest commercial airport tender in Brazil in 2018. There are 44 packages consisting of 32 retail shops, 16 restaurants, 40 services (banks, bureaux de change), two big hospitality set-ups, and advertising.”

Full details (in Portuguese) of each package and the various options, including all rules and requirements, can be found here. Parties interested in bidding must register to participate in the selection process through the bidding page on the Floripa Airport website. Florianópolis International Airport in Santa Catarina state is the 13th biggest in the country and handled 3.8 million passengers in 2017 (up +8.7% year-on-year). The key attraction of the gateway is that it serves the tourist city of Florianópolis. According to 2017 data from Brazil’s Ministry of Tourism, the destination is the second most popular in the country for foreigners on a leisure-only trip, after Rio de Janeiro.
