TFWA follows virtual trend with ‘China Reborn’ event for December

Alain Maingreaud: Virtual formula to restate TFWA’s commitment to the Chinese market

FRANCE/CHINA. TFWA will host a three-day virtual event on 1-3 December dedicated to the recovery of China’s duty free and travel retail sector.

The event will be anchored by a range of seminar sessions, the supplier association said. ‘China Reborn’ is part of a series of online events being organised by TFWA during the second half of 2020, beginning with a Sustainability in Travel Retail webinar on 16 July.

During the China Reborn event, insights on the recovery of the industry in China, including the latest traffic data, market developments, changes to shopping habits and online integration across the market will be explored.

TFWA’s ONE2ONE meeting service, linking brands, retailers, airports and other decision makers in China, will be available via a new virtual platform during the event. The association said that this would give attendees “the invaluable opportunity to re-connect and network ahead of 2021”.

“TFWA is delighted to restate its commitment to the Chinese market through the launch of this unique event, which will allow our members to reconnect with key retailers and other stakeholders at a time of change,” said TFWA President Alain Maingreaud. “A re-emergent Chinese market will play a central role in the rebirth of the global industry, and we are looking forward to working with our partners in China on this initiative.”

In April TFWA postponed its China’s Century Conference planned for March 2021 until one year later.

The TFWA initiative is one of several virtual travel retail events planned for the second half of 2020. On 27 March, The Moodie Davitt Report announced the Virtual Travel Retail Expo (now set for 12-16 October), which is being supported by a stellar line-up of exhibiting brands and retailers, including Diamond Partners China Duty Free Group, The SEVA Group and Qatar Duty Free. On 12 May, publishing house Travel Retail Business announced its own event, TRMarketplace, which will take place from 28 September until 2 October.
