‘Take-off Wednesday’: Qatar Airways reveals bumper schedule of flight resumptions

QATAR. Qatar Airways relaunched flights to 11 more destinations today, its largest single day of restarts, in what the carrier has dubbed ‘Take-off Wednesday’.

By mid-July, the airline’s network will expand to over 430 weekly flights to more than 65 destinations.

Qatar Airways plans to resume almost two thirds of its pre-COVID-19 network by the end of the month if travel restrictions continue to ease around the world

The schedule includes flights to the following destinations from 1 July: Bali Denpasar (daily); Beirut (seven weekly); Belgrade (three weekly); Berlin (three weekly); Boston (five weekly increasing to daily from 1 August); Edinburgh (three weekly); Larnaca (three weekly); Los Angeles (three weekly, five weekly from 17 July and six weekly from 1 August); Prague (three weekly); Washington DC (five weekly, increasing to daily from 1 August) and Zagreb (three weekly).

From 4 July Qatar Airways will fly to Toronto (three times weekly, a new destination). From 9 July it will fly to Ankara (three weekly), on 11 July it will resume four flights a week to Zanzibar and on 13 July the schedule will include three weekly flights to Kilimanjaro.

By 15 July the Doha-based carrier will have added Bucharest (four weekly flights), Sofia (four weekly) and Venice (three weekly).

The airline said that if flight restrictions are eased throughout July, it can resume almost two thirds of its pre-COVID-19 network by the end of the month.

This means the number of flights would almost double in July with close to 3,500 scheduled, compared to just under 2,100 in June.

During the crisis, Qatar Airways maintained a global network that never fell below 30 destinations. It also helped to repatriate close to two million people.
