TAIWAN. Taiwan plans to develop Kinmen Island into a duty free shopping zone aimed at Chinese tourists, the Economic Daily News reported today, citing a proposal approved by Premier Liu Chao-shiuan.
According to Dow Jones, the proposal, drafted by the Council for Economic Planning and Development, focuses on the mid- to long-term development of the outlying Kinmen and Matsu islands.
Kinmen is a national park and a popular weekend tourist destination for Taiwanese.
As previously reported, Taiwan aims to develop Matsu into an international tourism destination.
