AUSTRALIA. Sydney Airport has awarded its Terminal 2 departures news & books portfolio to Lagardère Travel Retail.

The award, which covers five outlets, follows a competitive tender. Sydney Airport said that it sought the most innovative and competitive player in the news & books category to deliver a contemporary retail experience for passengers, visitors and staff at Australia’s busiest domestic terminal.

Lagardère Travel Retail will provide T2’s entire news & books offer “by delivering a modern selection of brands that showcase great authors, compelling news publications and travel essentials, enhancing value and choice”, Sydney Airport said.

Sydney Airport General Manager Retail Glyn Williams said that securing an innovative news & books partner was integral to the New South Wales gateway’s wider retail offering.

“We’re proud to award the news & books portfolio at T2 Departures to Lagardère Travel Retail,” Williams said. “Our existing partnership with Lagardère Travel Retail at T3 Domestic has delivered innovative new brands such as Watermark Books & Café – a contemporary spin on a classic news & books offering that incorporates an integrated café proudly serving Campos Coffee, while providing customers with the chance to shop a range of unique travel essentials.”

Lagardère Travel Retail CEO Pacific Matthieu Mercier said the award was recognition of his team’s efforts in delivering a great customer experience.

“We are delighted to be awarded the news and books concession of five locations across T2, Australia’s busiest terminal, extending our long and successful partnership with Sydney Airport,” he said. “This comes after the renewal of the T3 Travel Essentials concession, so 2017 will remain as a milestone for us at Sydney Airport.”

Lagardère Travel Retail will introduce its latest Relay store concept across 674sq m of space.

In a follow-up release issued by Lagardère Travel Retail to The Moodie Davitt Report, Mercier added: “It signals a strong and successful partnership with Sydney Airport, rewards our teams who continue to deliver exceptional customer service and recognises our partners and suppliers who have trusted us with their brands and products, many of which will be exclusive to our Relay stores.”

Williams added that he was pleased to deepen the partnership with Lagardere Travel Retail “as we collectively seek to enhance the airport experience by showcasing a contemporary offering that wows passengers”.

T2’s transformation will continue in 2018, Sydney Airport noted. A staged improvements programme will deliver better wayfinding and improved sightlines, new retail concepts and relaxed dwell areas, featuring a greater sense of space and light.
