Sweet progress for Bonardo’s chocolate assortment – 12/09/05

SWITZERLAND. Bonardo Travel Retail reports a “spectacular” increase in sales at the end of August with its Swiss Chocolate Temptations assortment.

New listings were registered in the month of August with Dubai Duty Free, Abu Dhabi Airport and South Korea, among others. Additional major listings, particularly in Asia, will be announced at the TFWA Cannes show next month.

Explaining why the product has been successful, Bonardo Travel Retail Managing Director Alain Bonardo told The Moodie Report: “It’s now quite clear that duty free operators need new brands to excite people because tax free shopping has become monotonous and less attractive. On the other hand, travellers are looking for new products that would motivate them to buy more.

“Last but not least, duty free customers are looking for exclusivities that cannot be found in every supermarket around the corner. And this is what Swiss Chocolate Temptations is all about.”

Villars Maître Chocolatier, Bonardo’s major brand in confectionery, is doing particularly well, especially with the 200g assortment of Les Blocs Gourmands, which offers six varieties of tablets, each containing 30% hazelnuts, mandel or raisins, which is considered as a technical achievement.

Napolitains available in bags as well as in gift boxes are also a clear winner within the assortment, said Bonardo. Villars is the only producer offering the famous Dark Napolitains containing 72% cocoa in 250g and 500g boxes, he added.

Old Fashioned Drinking chocolate as well as a metal-embossed heart-shaped tin have also been launched by Villars in recent months. The Heart tin (pictured) will be one of the new highlights at the forthcoming TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.

The Munz exclusive assortment from Maestrani is also doing well with the new tablets and with the children’s bee and ladybird boxes.

The new square box of Mini Golds, launched in April 2005, is performing above expectations and a line extension is expected for the beginning of 2006.

Bonardo Travel Retail is expected to launch new products for the Villars and Munz assortment. At Cannes, Villars, Munz and Mini Golds will be presented on a brand-new stand (Blue Village H27).
