Swatch has released a Gem of the Year watch to mark Lunar New Year 2019. The timepiece is limited to 12,000 pieces.
Chinese New Year 2019 falls on 5 February and marks the start of the Year of the Pig, the twelfth of the zodiac signs.
The watch features a red case and gold dial with a gold and red patterned silicone strap. In Chinese culture, the colour red symbolises luck, happiness and celebration.
Gold too was chosen as a colour of celebration, explained Swatch. It also symbolises wealth and fortune, as does the pig.
The Swatch Gem of the Year watch is available in selected travel retail doors in locations popular among Chinese travellers.
As reported, the watch is included in retailer DFS Group’s Year of the Pig collection.
