SUQQU opens first downtown duty free counter with CNSC in Shanghai

SUQQU seeks to grow its footprint in China travel retail, with this counter a first step

CHINA. Prestige Japanese skincare brand SUQQU has opened its first downtown duty free counter in Shanghai, as the brand continues to expand its Chinese travel retail network.

The counter is located in the Bonnie & Clyde store at CNSC’s downtown duty free location in the Yueda 889 Plaza Shopping Mall in Shanghai, China. With travel to Japan currently restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, SUQQU seeks to reach more Chinese customers in Mainland China through an enhanced presence.

The brand’s presence highlights its signature products, The Cream Foundation and Signature Colour Eyes. The Cream Foundation has been infused with 13 Japanese-sourced extracts, including green tea and silk protein, that gives the skin a natural, glowing finish over time. It is the brand’s best-selling line and is also the most popular among Chinese tourists in Japan.

Established in 2003, SUQQU, manufactured and distributed by e’quipe, has a strong domestic presence in Japan with 42 stores. Internationally, the brand is available in the UK, France and across Asia Pacific. The name SUQQU was inspired by the Japanese expression of “a woman rising to her full height”.

SUQQU opened its first digital flagship store on TMall Global in September, 2019. In December 2020, SUQQU opened a beauty counter at Bonnie & Clyde in HKRI Taikoo Hui in Shanghai, followed by another counter in Jing An Kerry Centre in April 2021.

The move to enter Shanghai’s duty free market with CNSC is move to further establish SUQQU’s brand awareness with Chinese customers, the company said.

SUQQU was also one of the ten finalists during the inaugural The QDF Factor, held during last year’s Virtual Travel Retail Expo. All ten finalists secured a six-month listing with Qatar Duty Free.
