Summit of the Americas — A Virtual Experience to host 2021 DFNI Americas Awards

AMERICAS. The Summit of the Americas — A Virtual Experience will host the 2021 DFNI Americas Awards on Wednesday, 7 April. The awards programme celebrates the best in travel retail, with this year’s edition set to honour positive initiatives taken through the crisis.

The all-digital Summit is being organised by the International Association of Airport and Duty Free Stores (IAADFS) and Asociación Sudamericana de Tiendas Libres (ASUTIL) in partnership with The Moodie Davitt Report (which organised the successful Virtual Travel Retail Expo from 12-16 October) and stand curation partner FILTR.

The DFNI Americas Awards will feature special categories for 2021 highlighting how travel retail stakeholders have transformed through the pandemic and travel crisis. This includes the new Exceptional Achievement by a Retailer, Team of the Year and Hero Product of the Year awards.

The DFNI travel retail awards programme celebrates the best in travel retail. This year’s edition will have a special focus on 2020’s positive disruptors.

This year, DFNI is also recognising the Americas Airport with the Most Supportive Approach to Retail, Americas Supplier of the Year and Americas Travel Retailer of the Year. These awards will honour the people and businesses that have served as an example to the travel retail industry in times of crisis.

DFNI-Frontier Editor Kapila Ireland said, “DFNI has developed special categories for this year in light of the unprecedented challenges that businesses have faced. This year we have chosen to celebrate the companies, teams and people that have made a real difference — whether it is in support of the industry, within their organisations or to the community. We also hail the hero products that have made an impact with consumers in the travel retail arena despite the challenges the sector has faced.”

Ireland added, “Perhaps your business has stepped up its commitments to sustainability, provided the community with PPE or medical supplies, or maybe you have adapted in a way that prevented job losses or even win new business. We feel these initiatives should be applauded considering the extraordinary circumstances of the past year.”

Excitement builds in the pioneering virtual Americas event. The Moodie Davitt Report is the official media title of the 2021 Summit of the Americas – A Virtual Experience.

“We are pleased and proud to continue the long association of the DFNI Americas Awards with the IAADFS/ASUTIL Summit of the Americas,” commented DFNI-Frontier Sales Director Felix Barlow. “We are grateful to both associations for their ongoing partnership and support and we look forward to recognising the achievements of the industry of the past 12 months at the special virtual Summit of the Americas.”

Entries to the 2021 DFNI Americas Awards are open until 26 February. Visit the DFNI website for more information on new categories and judging criteria.

The Summit is open to airports and all other landlords from travel-related sectors; retailers, food & beverage operators and other commercial service providers; brands, agents & distributors; media and other relevant parties.
