That’s the main finding of a new report from wholesale travel brokerage company Tourico Holidays, the ‘2017 Global Hotel Trends Report’.

The total number of hotel room nights booked for 2017 has increased +28.7% year-on-year worldwide. Both North America and the European Union posted +28% growth, while Asia Pacific has recorded a +23% rise. The biggest increase has been in Latin America, at +43%.

“Despite attempts to frighten people away from travelling, the industry is not only surviving, but thriving”

The report also examined major tourist countries, with China (+52%), the UK (+38%) and the USA (+26%) all recording strong growth. Other notable performers are Canada (+55%), Mexico (+37%), Brazil (+31%), UAE (+65%), Thailand (+29%), Australia (+10%), and Sweden (+112%).

Tourico said it examined hotel booking data from nearly 80,000 hotel properties in over 4,500 destinations around the world to attain the results.

“It’s still early, but it’s extremely encouraging to see that booked hotel room nights for 2017 are already significantly outpacing 2016,” said Tourico Holidays Executive Vice President of Global Sales Lauren Volcheff Atlass. “Despite attempts to frighten people away from travelling, the industry is not only surviving, but thriving – and the hotel sector in particular, continues to grow.

“Tourism continues to be a major driver in the world’s economy, and a key indicator of its health can be measured by the growth in hotel bookings.”
