“Step changes in travel essentials”: Lagardère Travel Retail extends footprint at Sydney T2

AUSTRALIA. Lagardère Travel Retail has opened four new travel essentials stores amid the redevelopment of Sydney Airport Terminal 2.

Following a tender in late 2017, the company was awarded five locations covering 674sq m in Piers A and B, four in airside departures and one in landside arrivals. Now three Relay and one NewsLink store have opened, with the final store, Hub Convenience, set to open in late April.

“We’re excited to bring our latest evolution of Relay and NewsLink to Sydney Airport and to continue our long-standing relationship of over 22 years with them by delivering exciting step-changes in the travel essentials category” said Lagardère Travel Retail in Pacific CEO Przemek Lesniak.

Now open in Pier B is the 219sq m flagship Relay store, which showcases the latest brand design, along with an 85sq m Relay kiosk.

The retailer said: “The new stores feature a bespoke design, a new colour scheme dominated by a light ivory and warm wooden surfaces while maintaining the Relay red as a signal and accent colour. [It features] exclusive products and promotions, the latest in digital communications both in-store and on the lease line to promote value propositions and store penetration, and a strong and comprehensive print range driven by new and innovative promotions.”

A new look for NewsLink: Pictured is the 250sq m flagship store in Pier A.

In Pier A, a 250sq m flagship NewsLink store and a satellite 100sq m Relay kiosk have opened. The NewsLink layout “features ‘slow and fast zones’ with easy store navigation, complemented by a store design tailored to match the stunning and vibrant new environment at Sydney T2 to capture the airport’s vision for a premium retail offering,” said the company.

All stores offer books, news and convenience items, as well as snacks, beverages, gifts and souvenirs and items such as headphones and adaptors. The Top 50 reads and a Travelwell column are features of the Relay design, along with clear key category navigation, said the retailer.

Lagardère Travel Retail operates 17 stores across the three terminals at Sydney Airport.
