SSP strikes ten-year F&B deal for Darwin and Alice Springs airports

AUSTRALIA. SSP Group has struck a ten-year agreement with Airport Development Group (ADG) to deliver food & beverage services at Darwin International Airport and Alice Springs Airport. The agreement began today (1 July).

The new partnership will see a staged transformation of the terminal food & beverage outlets and a range of new offerings in each location. It extends SSP’s presence in Australia, which also includes Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne and Perth airports.

ADG Executive General Manager Property & Terminal Ross Baynes said: “Food & beverage offerings at airports are inextricably linked to customer experience so it is really important we offer variety, quality and value. The new partnership between SSP and ADG has been nearly 12 months in the making to ensure we get the offerings just right for our customers. We are really thrilled to be bringing this level of customer experience to passengers travelling through our airports.”

The Northern Common and Pronto are among the SSP concepts set to join the dining line-up at Darwin Airport

SSP will progressively open several new brands and concepts in the existing tenancies across both Darwin and Alice Springs. Over the coming months, seven sites will be fully redeveloped as part of terminal redevelopment. National brands Roll’d and Red Rooster will open new locations, and will be joined by bespoke SSP brands such as Pronto, Soul + Grain, The Gliding Goose and The Northern Common.

In Alice Springs, the existing café will be rebranded as Discovered Café and Bar. This will be complemented by a new, smaller landside offering called The Blue Bilby Café.

These outlets will offer a mix of all-day dining and café-style food and beverages and where possible local produce will be used, including locally roasted coffee.

SSP APAC Chief Operating Officer Shane Beyer said: “This new venture will be our first business in the important Northern Territory of Australia. We’re looking forward to bringing passengers passing through Darwin a chance to experience what is great about the Territory, and what makes it so unique.

“Developed in close partnership with our colleagues at the airport, the mix offered will appeal to all passengers, catering for all day parts late into the evening. The project will be an outstanding showcase of our ability to provide a truly impressive F&B offer for the Australian market.”

FAB SUPERSTARS & ESG AWARDS

The Moodie Davitt Report is inviting submissions for the FAB Superstars Awards 2022.

This second virtual edition of the awards will again shine the spotlight on the thousands of front-of-house and behind the scenes heroes and heroines who have helped keep the food & beverage community within our industry going throughout the challenges of the last year.

In addition, this year’s awards include an important new category, the FAB ESG Awards, which have been introduced to celebrate, recognise and reward those people and initiatives that have made a positive impact in the areas of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG).

The FAB ESG & Superstars Awards will be presented on Tuesday 13 September to conclude the Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) Conference 2022, which is taking place on 12-13 September during The Moodie Davitt Report Virtual Travel Retail Week.

They will recognise and reward the achievements of travel retail employees across airport, airline, downtown store and cruise sectors, and celebrate the strength of the human spirit, resourcefulness and ingenuity in our industry.
