SSP strikes €200 million deal to enhance F&B offering in Barcelona and debut in Madrid

SPAIN. SSP has signed an eight-year deal worth a claimed €200 million to increase its food & beverage presence at Barcelona-El Prat Airport from two to seven units and to open its first outlet at Madrid Barajas Airport.

The UK-based food travel specialist announced that grab-and-go unit Slam (from Michelin star chefs Javier and Sergio Torres) and local concept Cooofebar will both open at El Prat in May 2019. Charcuterie specialist Enrique Tomás launched earlier this month and the airport’s first Starbucks coffee shop last month. In November the Torres brothers also opened Alas, a fine dining restaurant.

Fine-dining concept Alas opened at Barcelona-El Prat last month.

In October SSP launched La Tramoia, which serves Spanish dishes such as tapas and paella. Pannus will open next May, serving sandwiches, cakes and pastries.

SSP will open grab-and-go healthy-food outlet Mama Campo later this month in Terminal 4 at Madrid Barajas. The menu will offer organic dishes made with “eco-friendly” ingredients. This builds on SSP’s introduction of the Mama Campo brand at Ibiza Airport.

SSP Spain Managing Director Blanca Ripoli said: “We are delighted to be given the opportunity to introduce customers travelling through Madrid and Barcelona to this outstanding range of food & beverage brands.”

Enrique Tomás specialises in Spanish charcuterie.
