SSP expands Spanish footprint at three key airports

SPAIN. Travel food & beverage specialist SSP Group has announced the retention of contracts at Seville and Granada International airports and secured a new one at Alicante Airport. As a result, it will open eight new units at these key travel locations this summer.

SSP’s contract with Seville Airport has been extended for seven years, during which it will introduce a variety of F&B brands across five new units. These will include a premium coffee offer from Starbucks, Italian-inspired espresso bar Ritazza, The Garden restaurant and an American sports bar, O’Learys.

SSP will also open an as yet unnamed premium tapas restaurant. As with its other openings at Seville, the company said it will be using products from local suppliers where possible.

SSP Group’s The Garden restaurant concept will appear at both Seville and Granada airports

Of the Seville contract renewal, SSP Group CEO Nordics and Continental Europe Jeremy Fennell said: “It is our aim to create a perfectly tailored brand mix to meet the needs of our passengers and enhance their experience. We’ve done this by introducing well-known international brands along with an array of authentic local options.”

SSP has extended its contract for five years at Granada Airport, where it will also be operating two new units. One of these will be Spain’s first Point convenience store.

The new store, an SSP brand which has achieved success in Norway according to the company, will offer a coffee menu as well as sandwiches, baguettes, pastries and more.

SSP will also be operating The Garden restaurant in Granada. It will offer hot food options including local favourites such as pianono, a local style of pastry.

Finally, SSP has secured a new landside unit in Alicante Airport on a five-year contract. The space  features a Starbucks with an outdoor terrace.

Fennell said: “With an immensely pent-up demand for leisure travel given the last two years, we are expecting a hugely popular summer period in holiday hot spots such as our locations in Spain and are excited to offer our guests a local experience wherever possible.

“We are also delighted to be continuing our partnership with Granada and to be operating our first Starbucks unit at Alicante.”
