SSP America opens Deschutes Brewery at Portland International

USA. SSP America has added Deschutes Brewery, an Oregon craft beer pioneer, to its F&B offer at Portland International Airport (PDX).

The two partners have collaborated on all aspects of the brewery’s airport location since being awarded the contract for the Concourse D outlet last year.

Deschutes Brewery President and CEO Michael LaLonde said: “Portland’s airport is well known for showcasing Oregon’s most iconic, high quality brands to visitors. We’re proud to be joining SSP America’s select group of vendors to bring our unique pub culture, our amazing food and our damn tasty beer we’ve now been brewing for 30 years to the nearly 17 million travellers who come through PDX every year.”

The original Deschutes Brewery & Public House was the inspiration for the design of the new Portland International outlet

Family and employee-owned since 1988, Deschutes Brewery is regarded as the cornerstone of Central Oregon’s craft brew culture. The PDX outlet’s design capitalises on the airfield’s natural light and echoes the original Deschutes Brewery location in downtown Bend to offer a public house/beer hall atmosphere. Design features include open ceilings, barrel stave walls, beer bar, digital fireplace and a stainless steel wall depicting Deschutes’ history.

Black Butte Porter is just one of the Deschutes’ craft beers now available at Portland International

Black Butte Porter, Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Fresh Squeezed IPA and seasonal, small batch beers, will be on draft, as well as a beer exclusively available to PDX passengers.

SSP America said its culinary team has worked closely with Deschutes Brewery Corporate Executive Chef Jeff Usinowicz and his team to craft an expanded menu for the airport location. The menu includes items which use beer as a key ingredient.

SSP America, a long-term operator at PDX, said the Deschutes opening is the latest example of the company’s focus on bringing a Taste of Place to North American airports.

SSP America Vice President of Business Development Scott Welding commented: “Our team has a tremendous commitment to the PDX community and share the airport’s focus on local and regional concepts. Deschutes Brewery is an incredible partner and a committed member of the greater Portland community. We’re going to work very hard to deliver an exceptional experience to PDX passengers.”
