Spanish-Mexican consortium wins contract to build US$4.1 billion Mexico City terminal

MEXICO. A Spanish-Mexican consortium was selected to build a US$4.1 billion terminal at Mexico City International Airport earlier this month, according to Momberger Airport Information*.

The Mexican Government awarded the contract to the Grupo Carso consortium, which comprises Spanish companies Acciona and Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas  and Mexican construction companies Grupo Carso, GIA, Prodemex, La Peninsular and ICA.

The building has been designed by architects Norman Foster and Fernando Romero and will take the shape of an ‘X’, alluding to Mexico

The terminal is scheduled to be completed in 2020 and will be able to handle some 68 million passengers annually. It will have 743,000sq m of floor area over four levels, with a central shopping area featuring on the third level.

State-owned GACM is managing the airport project and said the consortium won the contract because it had made the cheapest offer and because of its experience.
