DENMARK. Fashion brand Paul Smith has opened a directly-owned shop in Copenhagen Airport.
The 75sq m store is said to be the first of its kind in Scandinavia. It will offer both men’s and women’s clothes, shoes and accessories.
The brand said a “long-standing relationship with partners in Denmark and a loyal local customer-base” made the shop opening a natural fit.
Like all Paul Smith shops across the world, the interior design will reflect the store’s location. A colourful façade pays homage to the work of Mexican architect Luis Barragán, while the store’s furniture includes a large concrete-topped table, a pair of Hans Wegner shell chairs upholstered with Paul Smith and Marharam fabric, and a signature art wall.
The store’s reclaimed partridge wood flooring was sourced from Bretton Hall College in Yorkshire and dates back to 1949.
“I’ve always had a great affection for Copenhagen because of its wonderful history in design, especially with furniture and objects,” said fashion designer Paul Smith. “One of my favourite designers is Poul Kjærholm and the simplicity of the Danish approach to design makes it such an inspiring place to visit. I’m delighted to be opening our first shop in Denmark in Copenhagen Airport, as with all my shops, I hope to offer something unique and unexpected.”
