Six retailers express interest in Tocumen Airport duty free contract

PANAMA. Tocumen International Airport has revealed that six retailers have expressed interest in operating three 700sq m duty free spaces in Terminal 1.

Dufry, DFS, Top Brands, Duty Free Americas, Grupo Wisa and Motta Internacional attended an initial meeting with the airport earlier this month and obtained the tender papers, according to an airport spokesperson.

Offers are expected to be presented in July, according to the spokesperson. She told The Moodie Davitt Report that although an initial date of 10 July was set, most of the companies asked for more time.

Tocumen Airport is offering ten-year contracts for two retailers to operate the duty free spaces in Terminal 1

Incumbents Grupo Wisa and Motta Internacional’s contracts expire in December 2017.

Tocumen Airport is seeking two duty free retailers to operate the three 700sq m spaces in Terminal 1. Retailers can bid for a maximum of two areas, with one company operating one space and the other operating two.

The contracts run for ten years and will operate according to a Minimum Annual Guarantee model. Successful bidders will also be required to pay an undisclosed amount upfront, which will be deducted from monthly payments.

The airport said it was looking for retailers with experience in a number of airports worldwide and that can demonstrate economic solvency.

Motta Internacional, with its Attenza Duty Free brand, is one of the incumbent duty free concessionaires and is expected to submit a new bid
