Singapore Changi named world’s best airport by travel magazine readers

INTERNATIONAL. Travel + Leisure has named Singapore Changi as the world’s best airport for 2017.

The travel magazine surveyed its readers for its annual World’s Best Awards, asking them to rate airports on access, check-in and security, restaurants and bars, shopping, and design.

Changi’s Heritage Zone in Terminal 4 showcases local culture and flavour to international passengers.

The top ten list was dominated by Asian and Middle Eastern airports, with Hamad International, Dubai International, Incheon International and Hong Kong International joining Changi in the top five.

Only two European airports – Amsterdam Schiphol and Zürich – appear in the top ten.

“With a free movie theatre, napping lounges, a sunflower garden, spa, and a rooftop pool, Singapore Changi Airport continues to thrill our readers, and takes the number one spot for the fifth year in a row,” wrote Travel + Leisure.

“One particular benefit is the airport’s pre-customs, in-terminal hotels, which rent rooms in six-hour blocks. This timetable allows travellers to book a room for a long layover or to rest before an early morning flight.”

The magazine also noted readers’ appreciation of the many dining, shopping and entertainment establishments. “One could live for days within the airport without being bored,” wrote one reader.
