SOUTH KOREA. Shinsegae Duty Free yesterday (11 July) launched a cross-border ecommerce platform (https://www.ssgdfs.com/cn/odp/initOdpMain) specialising in Korean duty free products that can be bought by foreign shoppers without having to visit the country.
The platform is in line with the Korean government’s decision earlier this year to allow such projects in order to boost the country’s stricken duty free sector.
Effective 1 July, foreign customers can purchase Korean duty free products online without visiting the Republic, a new channel that has also been embraced by Lotte Duty Free, The Shilla Duty Free and Hyundai Department Store Duty Free.
Such cross-border programmes are also seen as a good way to boost global awareness and sales of K-brand products,
Shinsegae Duty-Free Online Mall offers two languages, Korean and Chinese. The online and app platform features 3,000 Korean products across K-beauty, fashion, and health functional foods, which are popular categories among Chinese customers.
The K-beauty category includes over 2,000 products from some 100 brands, including Sulwhasoo, The History of Whoo, Vidivici and V&A Beauty. Around 40 renowned Korean fashion brands are featured in a 1,300-strong line-up, including Youk Shim Won, O!Oi and Stretch Angels.
Cainiao Network, Alibaba’s logistics subsidiary, is in charge of delivery to China and other countries. Express mail service ensures that consumers receive their duty free products, quickly, conveniently and securely.
