Senegal’s Blaise Diagne International Airport officially opens

SENEGAL. Blaise Diagne International Airport is being officially opened today (7 December), after more than a decade of development and delays.

The airport is initially able to handle three million passengers per year, rising to 10 million per annum. This makes it one of Africa’s highest-capacity airports.

Blaise Diagne International is located in Diass, around 40km east of Dakar. It is managed by the Operating Company, a consortium composed of Summa, Limak and the AIBD S.A. (a Senegalese government entity).

As reported, Lagardère Travel Retail has been awarded a ten-year contract to manage duty free and convenience shops at Blaise Diagne International.

The airport serves the Sengalese capital of Dakar

Lagardère Travel Retail will operate duty free shops covering 1,000sq m, offering perfumes and cosmetics, confectionery, tobacco, liquor, accessories and electronics. It will also run a 100sq m Relay store focusing on press, books, snacks and souvenirs.

Commenting at the time of the award, Lagardère Travel Retail Chairman and CEO Dag Rasmussen said: “We are very proud to have been awarded this new concession in Senegal, which is the 33rd country in which we will be present in travel retail.

“We are taking a step further by entering a new region that offers many opportunities for our group. Lagardère Travel Retail and the Operating Company will work in close collaboration to be ready for an opening before the 7th of December 2017. We will do our utmost to live up to the expectations and to provide a service and experience of the highest quality.”
