Scorpio and Clarins strengthen inflight partnership – 23/11/09

FRANCE/UK. Scorpio Distributors and Clarins Group have extended their current distribution contract to include the latter’s cosmetics products to UK and selected European airlines. The extension is a further development of an original agreement to distribute Clarins Group fragrances, which has been in place for the past 12 months.

It also heralds a new development in Scorpio’s relationship with Gebr Heinemann (in September 2007 Gebr Heinemann purchased the majority shareholding of Scorpio Distributors). From now on all Clarins Group products will be stored and distributed from Heinemann’s warehouse facility in Hamburg.

“We have been very impressed with what Scorpio has achieved for Clarins so far, so taking things a step further like this made perfect sense,” Clarins Regional Director Travel Retail – Europe Nicolas Piquereau told The Moodie Report.

“In particular, they have achieved fantastic results for Thierry Mugler, and have tripled our number of listings. They bring realism, efficiency and fun to the business. They have a different approach and think out of the box.”

“Clarins is the number one skincare brand in UK travel retail, and historically has enjoyed a strong presence in airport doors,” noted Scorpio Distributors Group Managing Director Stuart McGuire.

“˜We are looking at a new marketing approach for the brand’s key pillar products, and will be working closely with our airline partners to make this a success.”

The distribution contract covers airlines in the UK, Ireland, Russia, South Africa and selected European countries. The new assortment will be onboard in time for the spring/summer 2010 season.

“Twice a year we carry out a full market analysis of all products for sale on board airlines globally. This gives us a unique understanding of the market, and allows us to target the products successfully on board,” said McGuire.

“Scorpio has so much information at its fingertips, it will allow us to track, learn and correct our inflight travel retail strategy accordingly,” added Piquereau. “We will harness their retail expertise and are very excited about the prospects for this new partnership.”
