NETHERLANDS. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol served 25.5 million travellers in 2021, a +22% increase year-on-year but a fall of -64% on the 71.7 million high reported in 2019.

Recovery was limited during the first half of the year, with just 5.6 million travellers. Traffic started to pick up during the Summer and the second half of the year saw a total of 19.9 million travellers through the airport.

Other Royal Schiphol Group locations also posted their annual figures. Eindhoven Airport saw traveller numbers increase +28% to 2.7 million, Rotterdam The Hague Airport volumes climbed +48% to 0.8 million.

Schiphol directly connected the Netherlands to 296 destinations last year, 118 of them intercontinental. That figure stood at 316 in 2020 and 332 in 2019. Despite there being 20 fewer destinations than in 2020, Schiphol was one of the best-connected airports in Europe in 2021 according to the latest ACI connectivity report. Among the destinations that dropped out of the Schiphol network in 2021 were Windhoek, Namibia; Portland, USA; Mombasa, Kenya and Havana, Cuba.
