San Diego Airport seeks partner for duty free concession in T2

USA. The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority is seeking proposals from potential partners for the duty free concession at San Diego International Airport, Terminal 2 West. In the initial phase the airport company has issued a Request for Qualifications.

A pre-submittal conference will be held at the airport on 16 May with proposals due by 7 June.

The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority said: “The concession will provide our international airport passengers with a unique and elegant duty free/duty paid retail shopping experience.”

At stake is a five-year concession, which should be open to passengers by 1 June 2018.

Duty Free Americas: The incumbent duty free retailer at San Diego Airport T2 had sales of just over US$500,000 in 2016

The specific percentage rent and minimum guarantees will be determined through a subsequent RFP process after completion of the RFQ.

The incumbent is Duty Free Americas. The company had sales of US$506,956 in 2016, according to the airport’s RFP documents.

San Diego Airport handled 20.7 million passengers in 2016, of which 762,156 were international. The airport has non-stop international flights from T2 to Canada, the UK, Mexico and Japan. Non-stop services to Germany and Switzerland are scheduled to begin this summer.
