UK/MIDDLE EAST. There were victories for Her Majesty the Queen and Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum during Dubai Duty Free’s flat season opener at the weekend.
The Queen’s horse, Call To Mind, won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Maiden Stakes, while the Sheikh’s Mulhimatty and Muntahaa were victorious in the Coln Valley Stud Bridget Maiden Fillies’ Stakes and Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Stakes respectively.
The two-day event at Newbury Racecourse marked Dubai Duty Free’s 22nd year of British racing sponsorship. In addition to putting its name to the event itself, the airport retailer sponsored eight individual races.
Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman & CEO Colm McLoughlin and the company’s Executive Vice President for Corporate Services Salah Tahlak were on hand to present trophies to winning connections in each of the retailer-sponsored races.
On day two McLoughlin presented a 25th anniversary Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships book to Newbury Racecourse Chairman Dominic Burke and his wife Valda to mark the longstanding association between the retailer and the Berkshire venue.
