Retail inMotion completes acquisition of mCabin app from Lufthansa Systems

IRELAND. Retail inMotion has acquired the mCabin app from Lufthansa Systems, with the aim of optimising crew processes.

The Dublin-headquartered company said it will integrate the mCabin software modules into its proprietary digital retail platform to reinforce and expand the platform’s competencies.

mCabin includes modules to help crew members give passengers a more personalised service. Additionally, the application improves crew productivity and effective crew management inflight, Retail inMotion said.

Retail inMotion works with airlines including Aer Lingus, Eurowings, Air Asia, American Airlines and Ryanair.

A flight’s purser, or cabin manager, uses the crew-facing mCabin application to manage tasks before, during and after a flight. mCabin gives real-time information to pursers regarding the other crew members on board and provides insight into any passengers with special requirements or rewards status.

For back office purposes, mCabin offers several services to support crew management, including service reports, crew reviews, maintenance information and general feedback collection.

Retail inMotion reached an agreement with Lufthansa Systems earlier this year to purchase the mCabin app. Both the integration of the application and transfer of existing contracts have since been underway.

Retail inMotion CCO Jan Blanchard has hailed the acquisition of mCabin as a major milestone for the business.

The acquisition of mCabin is part of the continued alignment activities of the Lufthansa Group, the ultimate parent company of both Retail inMotion and Lufthansa Systems.

The two companies have co-operated for the past few years in an attempt to maximise synergies within the areas of inflight entertainment and ancillary revenue generation.

Retail inMotion CCO Jan Blanchard said: “The vision we have for the Retail inMotion digital retail platform is coming alive more and more each day. The integration of mCabin is a major milestone in the expansion of our platform’s competencies with special functionalities for crew members.”

Lufthansa Systems Senior Director Business Development & Innovation Fabian Prange said: “We are pleased that we have found a new home for our mCabin app within the Lufthansa Group, where it can continue to grow.

“With this minor portfolio adaption we are continuing our focus on enabling airlines to achieve operational and commercial excellence in their core processes.”
