USA. HMSHost is rolling out a new health-conscious snacking concept across six US airports.
‘Eat Well. Travel Further.’ features pop-ups with products designed to help travellers make good eating and snacking choices.
Products include wellness shots, said to aid balance and detoxify, and probiotic beverages which are regarded as healthy and good for the digestive system. Snacks include kale chips, roasted chickpeas, and organic dried fruit. Bento-style boxes such as the Paleo Snack Box and Protein Lunch Box are preservative-free, offer less than 500 calories and feature lean proteins and fresh fruits and vegetables.
The wellness pop-ups can be found at Chicago O’Hare International, Charlotte Douglas International, Los Angeles International, Minneapolis–St. Paul International, Seattle–Tacoma International, and Orlando International airports, as well as the Grover Cleveland Service Plaza on the New Jersey Turnpike.
“HMSHost leveraged evolving popular health food trends across the country to support the needs of health-conscious guests and to bring travellers expanded choices they might not expect to find when travelling,” the company stated.
HMSHost President and CEO Steve Johnson said: “HMSHost leads the way in culinary innovation for travellers because we understand how people are rethinking food.
“Eat Well. Travel Further. emphasises our commitment to bring on-trend dining experiences to travellers that include original choices and variety.”
The new products are part of a pilot programme being introduced in travel venues. HMSHost said it developed Eat Well. Travel Further. offerings with input from a certified nutritionist to ensure the best wellness options for travellers to help maintain a healthy lifestyle on-the-go.
HMSHost is spotlighting the new offerings through tastings, giveaways and handouts with tips on staying healthy while travelling.
‘Fresh today’ signs have also been introduced at other HMSHost-operated grab-and-go locations. According to the company, the signs ensure maximum freshness of its food items.
High quality, surplus food items which are not sold within 24-hours are donated to a local charity. In 2016 the food donation programme provided more than 1.35 million pounds of food to local charities, HMSHost said. The programme supports the company’s ‘startsomewhere‘ sustainability initiative, which focuses on the environment, nutrition and wellness, and community partnerships.
