Qatar Airways confirms 60% stake in Rwanda’s new airport

QATAR/RWANDA. Qatar Airways has confirmed its signing of an investment partnership with the Rwandan government for the African country’s new international airport.

The partnership for Bugesera International Airport, initially announced by the Rwanda Development Board, sees Qatar Airways take a 60% stake in the US$1.3 billion project.

The new facility will accommodate 7 million passengers per year, with a second phase of development to accommodate an annual 14 million passengers starting by 2032. Qatar Airways will be involved with the building, ownership and operation of the airport.

A statement from the Rwanda Development Board said: “The agreements signed today mark a key milestone in the development of Rwanda’s vibrant aviation sector, in the context of the excellent bilateral relationship between Qatar and Rwanda.”
