Price comparison site dutyfree.buzz aims to build global presence

INDIA. A newly launched, independently owned, duty free price comparison website and app called dutyfree.buzz is building an international audience from its Indian base – and aims to compare prices on key references at more than 100 airports this year, from 40 currently.

The independent company is running a major campaign at Mumbai Duty Free (a joint venture between Flemingo and DFS) to advertise the website and app.

Dutyfree.buzz is a global aggregator of prices (as published online by duty free retailers and airports). It also features allowance information.

Travellers can fill in the product they seek and details of their trip, including departure and arrival airport. The site then provides lowest price information on their chosen item (where available) and details of the savings available. Although not a shopping site, it also provides links to retailers’ websites for order online.

Mumbai Duty Free has launched a campaign that aims to convince travellers of the value of shopping at its stores, using dutyfree.buzz

On its website dutyfree.buzz said: “Our mission is to be the preferred platform for anyone and everyone who wants to know about the travel retail world (product prices, promotions, new product launches, allowance information, airports & related information and much more). We endeavour to deliver the highest value for our partners, customers and stake holders with whom relationships are key.”

Among the featured locations are the major Indian airports, Dubai, Hong Kong, Beijing, London Heathrow, Manila, Paris, Incheon, Sydney and Singapore.

Speaking to The Moodie Report about the development, DFS India Managing Director Manishi Sanwal said: “It is an interesting solution and we are experimenting with it currently. It will be some time before it is integrated into the strategy but it is clear that passengers are hungry for pricing information.”
