Porsche Design races into Cannes with new hi-tech eyewear range

Premium lifestyle brand Porsche Design will introduce a range of eyewear featuring hi-tech material, usually used in motorsports, at next month’s TFWA World Exhibition & Conference (Riviera Village RE17).

The brand said it is the first time that it has used carbon fibre, from factory-made material which is 0.005-0.008mm thick, in sunglass design. The fibre is described as very light, ‘enormously’ strong and corrosion resistant.

“Carbon fibres have many benefits for the automobile industry: not only are they 80% lighter than steel, but they are four times as strong as aluminium,” Porsche Design stated. “The remarkable properties of this material are of equal benefit for eyewear.”

The company said the lightness of the carbon fibres offers the wearer comfort and the woven fibres create a unique design element. “Carbon fibres also win over other materials with their incredible stability and heat resistance,” the company added.

The sunglasses range includes a new P‘8651 model in an aviator design, featuring a golden frame and green-brown tinted lenses. The temples are made of black carbon fibres and are available in four different colour shades.
