Pop-ups, souqs, crafts and cartoon characters: Abu Dhabi Duty Free spreads the spirit of Ramadan

UAE. Abu Dhabi Duty Free is putting on a programme of events and activities to celebrate Ramadan at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The retailer hopes to spread the spirit of the holy month and educate travellers, and said screens across the airport terminals would show videos demonstrating the habits and traditions involved in Ramadan.

Fragrance pop-up shops featuring local brands Ajmal and Amouage have been installed, while a traditional photo booth will create an entertaining experience for passengers.

Activities at the airport will include: live weavers; displays of Al Ghadeer traditional UAE crafts and the woven products of local brand Tegaya (which is supported by the Khalifa Foundation); a Ramadan-themed Souq in Terminal 3; and meet and great sessions with UAE cartoon characters Hamdoon and Hamda.

Food & beverage outlets will also support the Ramadan theme by offering special Iftar menus at discounted prices, and water and dates will be distributed at the time of fast breaking. Special Ramadan gift boxes will be handed out by Choco Dates, Petit Gourmet and Zadina Dates.

As reported, Abu Dhabi Duty Free will also offer a -10% discount on all duty free purchases made online during the month of Ramadan, in what it said was a first for the company.

“Ramadan is a great season to reflect on the values and traditions embedded in the UAE culture and to allow our international mix of passengers to get a taste of the authenticity it brings,” said Abu Dhabi Airports SVP Commercial Saoud Al Shamsi.

“Our goal is to continue to develop the airport environment by not only offering our guests irresistible shopping deals, but also giving them the opportunity to experience what Abu Dhabi as a destination has on offer, whether in hospitality, luxury, or entertainment.”
