Pittsburgh International brings more local flavour with latest dining and retail openings

USA. Pittsburgh International Airport has opened a range of local dining and retail concepts and unveiled its remodelled food court.

The airport noted the importance of Sense of Place and offering travellers a taste of the city.

The Gaby et Jules kiosk is an extension of the company’s flagship location in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighbourhood

Pâtisserie Gaby et Jules offers authentic French confections including macarons, confitures (jams) and gourmet nuts in its Concourse A kiosk. More than a dozen flavours of Gaby et Jules’ signature macarons are available, including house specialities such as white chocolate basil and ‘Le Pittsburgh’. A featured ‘macaron of the month’ will also be offered. All items are baked at Gaby et Jules’ flagship location in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighbourhood.

The Strip Market’s ‘Best of Pittsburgh’ kiosk in Concourse B features regional delicacies, including Pittsburgh Pickles, Sarris Candies, Enrico Biscotti treats and Eat’n Park Smiley Cookies. An assortment of products curated from hometown brands also feature, alongside a selection of handmade Christmas ornaments from Wendell August Forge.

More than a dozen types of macaron are offered at pâtisserie Gaby et Jules

Two popular Pittsburgh dining brands, Steel Cactus and Local Craft, are scheduled to open airport locations by the end of the year. Steel Cactus will serve traditional and modern Mexican fare in the main food court. Local Craft is an extension of Pittsburgh’s Local Bar & Kitchen and Local Brewhouse establishments, and will offer “brews and bites” in a new location in Concourse A.

Vino Volo is opening its second location at the airport. The new retail-focused boutique and tasting lounge will also offer small plates and wines in the Center Core area.

The remodelled main food court area now features modern furnishings, a communal seating area, LED lighting and more power outlets and USB charging ports. The food court seats up to 300 people and offers natural light with views of the airfield.

“Bringing more of Pittsburgh into the terminal and creating Sense of Place through dining and retail options is important,” said Pittsburgh International Airport Vice President of Media Relations Bob Kerlik. “We are pleased to announce these popular local establishments will be opening airport locations.”
