Piper-Heidsieck and Dubai Duty Free unveil second edition of rare Hors-Série 1982 cuvée

Unveiled in 2021, the Hors-Série collection gives Chief Winemaker, Émilien Boutillat, carte blanche to transmit and enrich the Piper-Heidsieck heritage
Limited line: Only 3,000 bottles have been produced, with Dubai Duty Free being the first travel retail stockist

UAE. Champagne house Piper-Heidsieck and Dubai Duty Free have teamed up for the second release of the Hors-Série 1982 expression.

Only 3,000 numbered bottles have been produced globally with Dubai Duty Free the first travel retailer to offer the line in the channel (it is also sold by selected local market retailers).

As reported, the first Hors-Série cuvée was unveiled in 2021, with Dubai Duty Free again the only travel retail to feature the expression.

Each Hors-Série cuvée is distinguished by its cellar time, singular blend and unique sourcing.

The second ultra-limited release is crafted from 1982 vintage magnums. It was created by Chief Winemaker Émilien Boutillat, who was given creative freedom to create the liquid. The cuvée is blended from 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay and aged for 39 years on lees. The liquid has been dosed with four grams of sugar per litre, similar to Piper Heidsieck’s Brut Sauvage 1982.

The extra Brut dosage was added during the disgorgement on 17th and 18th January 2022, giving the cuvée an added vibrancy, freshness and minerality.

Commenting on the expression, Boutillat said: “The 1982 vintage was one of the first I discovered as Chief Winemaker when I joined in 2018. I selected it for the Hors-Série collection as it was a magnificent expression of the Piper-Heidsieck style. With Hors-Série 1982, I wanted to show how a recent disgorgement, after so many years of cellaring on lees, could enhance the vintage’s personality.”

Piper-Heidsieck Global Travel Retail Director Cécile Vangelisti added: “Hors-Série 1982 is a true testimony of Piper-Heidsieck’s wine excellence and audacity. We are extremely proud to reveal those very few bottles at Dubai Duty Free, our esteemed partner, allowing consumers to have a unique tasting experience with a stunning forty year old vintage Champagne.”

“At Dubai Duty Free, we are committed to offering our customers outstanding products and one-of- a-kind experiences,” added Dubai Duty Free Senior Vice President Purchasing Sharon Beecham.

“This is why we are pleased to collaborate with Piper-Heidsieck on Hors-Série 1982, the second opus in the Hors-Série series. Since 2021, the Champagne category has outperformed others, therefore it is important for us to continue providing exclusive and high-end products.”

African & Eastern/Gulf Beverages Group Business Manager Travel Retail Chirag Aggarwal added: “We are very delighted to be part of the Hors Serie 1982 launch with our close partner Dubai Duty Free. We are thrilled to be partnering with Piper-Heidsieck, which is one of the most innovative Champagne houses, which always comes up with new ideas.
