Philip Morris International announces release of new IQOS 3 DUO

Philip Morris International (PMI) has unveiled a new addition to its smoke-free portfolio: the IQOS 3 DUO.

Available in Japan from this month, the new product will makes its first appearance in travel retail at DXB (Dubai International) and Kansai International airports on 1 October. It will then be rolled out in other markets during November.

In travel retail, the gold version of IQOS 3 DUO will initially be a Dubai Duty Free exclusive at DXB. The retailer will also stock blue, white and grey models

According to PMI, the IQOS 3 DUO is designed with new features to help adult smokers switch from cigarettes “more seamlessly”. It is described as the “fastest and most powerful” holder within the IQOS family of products and allows two consecutive uses without recharging the holder. The charging time is faster than previous models (IQOS 3 and IQOS 2.4+).

PMI said the new technology involved in IQOS 3 DUO represented the latest step in its journey to achieve a smoke-free future and to strengthen its position as a leader in the smoke-free products category.

PMI Chief Operating Officer Jacek Olczak said: “The launch of IQOS 3 DUO affirms our commitment to constantly and continuously investing in the development and commercialisation of scientifically-substantiated products that can help the millions of adults who would otherwise continue to smoke to switch.

“These ongoing product updates, innovations and developments are vital in our achievement of a smoke-free future. Today approximately eight million adults worldwide have switched to IQOS and abandoned cigarettes.”

PMI’s stated aim is that by 2025 at least 40 million of its cigarette smokers who would otherwise continue to smoke will have switched to smoke-free products, and that at least 30% of its total shipment volume will come from smoke-free products.

According to PMI’s own research, an average of 70% of the smokers who switch to IQOS abandon cigarettes

To date, the company claims to have invested more than ten years and US$6 billion in the scientific research, development and commercialisation of its growing portfolio of advanced smoke-free products.

Note: IQOS is not risk-free and it delivers nicotine, which is addictive, PMI points out.
