Penelope Zhou brings professional interpreter and journalistic skills to The Moodie Davitt Report’s WeChat platform

HONG KONG, CHINA. Penelope Zhou has been appointed Chinese Editor at The Moodie Davitt Report.

Penelope, based in Hong Kong, will head The Moodie Davitt Report’s new WeChat Official Account Platform, reporting to Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie, who is also in Hong Kong.

Penelope will be supported by Ying Wei, a Chinese national now living in London who will continue to offer support services on our Chinese-language publications.

Penelope, a native Mandarin speaker, is a professional interpreter and journalist. Her interpreting clients include the Guggenheim Museum; the BBC; Morgan; Lewis & Bockius; DLA Piper and UNESCO.

From 2009 until 2012, Penelope was Arts Editor and Film Critic for HK Magazine and later became Corporate Communications Coordinator for Christie’s Hong Kong. Over recent years she has worked as a freelance writer, translator and interpreter.

“After a soft launch in March, our WeChat platform has been building nicely. Our latest edition generated an impressive 10,638 views, 906 shares, and 377 new followers. And that readership was on top of our mainstream web traffic from MoodieDavittReport.com, which is by far the most well-read media platform in travel retail.

“Our story on China Duty Free Group becoming the world’s number one duty free retailer by sales in 2020 garnered particular attention in China, drawing 9,746 views from 7,868 readers. On our main website it generated a further 8,493 page views, an extraordinary collective result.

“Now that we have found our feet with the platform, we plan to invest not only in staff but also in design and marketing to build our presence further in China.

“Our new partnership with Hainan Hinews Media Company also offers us a world of possibilities and we have some exciting joint projects planned in both Chinese and English,” Moodie said.
