Paul & Shark is to challenge Italian artist Annarita Serra to create an original artwork that highlights ocean pollution.
The Save the Sea project aims to raise awareness of the dumping of solid waste into the ocean, which is one of the most serious causes of pollution affecting our seas, explained Paul & Shark.
At the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes, Paul & Shark will present an as yet undisclosed challenge to Annarita Serra, the result of which will be revealed on Wednesday 3 October (Riviera, RH8).
Annarita Serra was chosen for her commitment to the cause highlighted, which is one of a number of environmental issues she has showcased through her art. Her signature style uses waste plastic that gathers on beaches; her works often depict pop culture icons.
“Only the power of art can help me save the sea,” said Serra. “Twenty years have passed, I’ve collected a thousand quintals of plastic and created dozens of artworks. I discovered that they have the power to attract attention and create awareness”
The brand commented: “Through the artist’s work, Paul & Shark has identified the perfect interpretation of its own values and together they have transformed into art the key elements that represent the DNA of the brand – water and sea, in their multiple expressions.”
Paul & Shark has created a cotton t-shirt and a bomber jacket to support the project. The material of the latter is 100% made from used plastic bottles collected and processed in Italy.
The Save the Sea project will be presented on Sunday at the welcome coffee for the Paul & Shark sponsored Regatta on Sunday 30 September at the TFWA World Exhibition Cannes at 08:00. The resulting artwork will be revealed on Wednesday 3 October at the brand’s booth (Riviera, RH8) at 16:00.
