Passenger traffic at Spain’s airports reaches new heights in 2018

SPAIN. The national airport network managed by Aena handled 263.7 million passengers in 2018, a solid rise of 5.8% year-on-year and a new record, the airports group reported today.

Of the total, 182.5 million were international travellers, 4.1% more than in 2017, and 80.4 million flew on domestic flights, up by 10%.

Madrid-Barajas Airport: Outpaced traffic growth across the Aena network in 2018.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport had the highest number of passengers in the network with almost 57.9 million, a robust 8.4% increase over 2017. It was followed by Barcelona-El Prat with 50.1 million (6.1%) and Palma de Mallorca with 29 million (4%).

Other airports handling more than ten million passengers were Málaga-Costa del Sol airport with 19 million (2.1%); Alicante-Elche with almost 14 million (2.0%); Gran Canaria with 13.5 million (3.7%) and Tenerife Sur with 11 million (down by 1.8%).
