Paris airports post solid increase in retail revenue in first quarter

FRANCE. Groupe ADP, which manages Paris’ two major airports, posted revenue from its Retail & Services division of €223 million in Q1 2017, a rise of +2.4% year-on-year. The key figure of sales per departing passenger was up marginally by +0.4% to €18.90.

Revenue from retail (defined as income for the airport company from shops, bars and restaurants, banking and foreign exchange activities, car rental companies and advertising) was up +5.9% at €101 million.

Within this, revenue from airside shops grew by +4.6% to €68 million thanks to the slight increase in sales per passenger and despite a fall in tobacco sales.

Duty free sales per passenger increased by +1.6% to €34.20 while duty paid sales per passenger decreased by -2.3% to €7.00.

Rents from landside shops increased by +3.9% to €4 million. Bars and restaurants continued to experience “strong growth”, with Q1 revenue surging by +24.9% to €9 million. Média Aéroports de Paris saw an increase in revenue of +5.7% to €12 million, while revenue from car parks was almost stable at €41 million (+0.4%).

Paris Aéroport (CDG and Orly airports) passenger traffic climbed by +5.0% to 22.0 million in the period. This, said Groupe ADP, was “driven by the dynamism of low cost carriers (+17.9%) and the gradual recovery in international traffic (+4.8%).”
