FRANCE. The two major Paris airports handled 97.2 million passengers in 2016, an increase of +1.8% compared to the previous year, Groupe ADP has reported.
Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport welcomed 65.9 million passengers (+0.3% year-on-year) and Paris-Orly Airport 31.3 million (+5.3%). Traffic climbed by +1.5% in the first half of the year and by +2.1% in the second half.
European traffic (excluding France) was up +3.4%, driven by growth among low-cost carriers.
International traffic (excluding Europe) was up slightly (+0.4%), with the Middle East leading growth among the key regions at +3.6% year-on-year. Other growth regions included Latin America (+2.0%), Africa (+1.9%) and North America (+0.1%). Asia Pacific traffic fell by a sharp -6.7% due mainly to decreases to and from Japan and Malaysia.
Traffic within France grew by +1.1% while French Overseas Territories posted +4.8% growth.
Passenger traffic at TAV Airports, 38%-owned by Groupe ADP, increased by +2.0% in 2016 to 104.4 million passengers. The key TAV location, Istanbul Atatürk Airport, posted a -2% drop in traffic to 60.1 million.
Passenger traffic at Santiago, 45%-owned by Groupe ADP, climbed by +11.3% to 19.2 million.
In December, CDG and Orly combined had 7.7 million passengers, an increase of +8.8% compared to December 2015. Some 5.2 million passengers travelled through Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (+7.5%) and 2.5 million through Paris-Orly Airport (+11.5%). The figures were affected by comparisons with late 2015, when traffic fell sharply following the November Paris attacks.
