Paradise in Portugal: Lisbon Airport unveils commercial revamp

PORTUGAL. Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport has unveiled a revamped commercial area which includes an expanded walk-through duty free store and a central food court.

The new duty free store features an additional 450sq m of space, according to concession holder ANA Aeroportos/VINCI Airports. Sense of Place features heavily in the store’s design, with Portuguese paving and tiles among the elements that are emblematic of Lisbon.

The walk-through store now occupies a total of 1,900sq m and offers an expanded product range. Along with the typical category areas, it features space for promotional activities and a section dedicated to local products, called Taste of Portugal.

The range of premium brands in the perfumes section has increased, and specific areas for Tom Ford and Carolina Herrera have been introduced. The cosmetics section has also been expanded through the introduction of new brands such as Kérastase.

New brands also feature in the other retail units in the airport’s departure hall, including Carolina Herrera, Max Mara, Versace and Calvin Klein.

The new commercial area includes premium multi-brand store Attitude. The 276sq m outlet stocks brands such as Hugo Boss, Tag Heuer, Longchamp, Franck Muller, Gucci, Breitling and Omega.

The Fashion Gate store features several brands including G-Star, Calvin Klein Jeans, Braccialini and Melissa. The expanded Betrend space offers a range of accessories from brands such as Armani Jeans, Furla, DKNY, Coccinelle and Love Moschino. Other stores at the airport include Guess and Michael Kors.

Sports at Heart stocks sporting goods, the Chocolate Lounge offers a selection of confectionery products, and the airport’s handicrafts shop has been revamped.

The non-Schengen commercial area has also been expanded, with new brands and concepts introduced. These include Porsche Design, Tumi, Dreams Gourmet, Rimowa and Parfois. A multi-brand store features brands such as Liu Jo, Braccialini, Max Mara Weekend and Calvin Klein Jeans.

Accessories outlet Ale-Hop will open soon at the airport, ANA Aeroportos/VINCI Airports said. The company will also unveil innovative new vending machines in the near future. Passengers will be able to purchase gadgets, electronics and travel accessories along with food and snack items.

The new central food hall occupies an area of 1,555sq m. New concepts include The Mercado and two pastry shops – France’s Paul and local Lisbon favourite Versailles. Go Natural, the Cockpit, the Gelati di Chef and the Sweet Colors sweet shop also feature, along with international fast food companies McDonald’s, KFC and Pizza Hut.

In terms of operations, a new security control and screening area has been constructed in Terminal 1. This will increase operating capacity to 3,000 passengers per hour. A new check-in area has also been implemented.

ANA Aeroportos/VINCI Airports said that for the first time at a Portuguese airport passengers will be able to access restricted areas without human intervention by using the new facilities.

In Terminal 2, the departure hall has been completely reorganised, with wider passageways and more spacious waiting areas.

The airport has also introduced a ‘Kiss and Fly’ concept which allows ten minutes of free parking.
