Ottawa International Airport seeks proposals for food & beverage and retail concessions programmes

CANADA. The Ottawa International Airport Authority (OIAA) has launched two request for proposals (RFP) processes for its food & beverage and retail concessions programmes.

OIAA said it was seeking proposals to replace the majority of the current concessions programme at Ottawa International Airport, with lease terms of between seven and ten years.  Much of the programme has been in its current configuration since the original opening of the terminal building in 2003.

Submissions are due 13 December, 2018.

The new concessions will be incorporated into an updated terminal building layout, which will see its main security checkpoint relocated to the third level near the check-in counters. The current security checkpoint area will be repurposed into a central retail showcase facing an upgraded food court area.

Other areas of the concessions programme will also be upgraded, OIAA said.

The OIAA said it would emphasise Sense of Place, exciting store designs, customer service and locally sourced products in its new concession programme, among other factors.

The authority will conduct an outreach and education programme with local or regional brands, and will facilitate introductions with master concession operators, “with whom they may elect to form partnerships”.

Local operators will also be given the opportunity to submit brand profiles, which will be provided to RFP respondents as an Interested Parties list.

Operators can submit proposals for one, several or all available locations, and these are due by 13 December 2018.

Implementation of the new concepts is set to begin in summer 2019 and is scheduled to be completed in 2021.

The RFPs are available for download on www.merx.com under the ‘Agencies, Crown and Private Corporations’ section.
